Why It is Important to Take Antioxidants
Antioxidants are one of the most important supplements that you can take. They break down harmful free radicals that cause aging, cancer, stokes, and heart disease. Oxidation damages our cells and without antioxidants we wouldn't be able to survive. These antioxidants provide an electron to a free radical that changes it to an inert substance. Having a diet that is rich in foods that supply them can be very beneficial to our health.
They are many important antioxidants within our bodies such as vitamin c and vitamins e. They aren't created within our own bodies so they must be absorbed through the food we eat. Citrus fruits are a great source of vitamin c and can prevent diseases like scurvy. Vitamin e is also one of the strongest antioxidant in our bodies and it protects lipids from oxidative molecules.
There are natural enzymes with our bodies that serve as antioxidants, but we can't control the levels that nature gave us. One thing we can do though is improve our antioxidant levels though supplementation. There are many supplements that are available to increase the levels and keep free radicals in check. Taking antioxidant supplements is a good idea, because there is scientific proof that they can help prevent many types of diseases.
Many people are taking supplements today even if they have no health problems. Taking supplements is considered a preventative measure to ensure that your body is as healthy as possible. There are certain supplements that should be taken by everyone. These include a good multivitamin, vitamin c, vitamins b complex, and a good multi mineral supplement. These can increase your energy throughout the day and keep your body healthy. They also prevent strain on the body's natural antioxidants and enzymes, in case the body experiences a higher that normal free radical load.
