Spy on the Family?
The recent explosion of high-tech gadgets for the Home has spurred an increased interest in all forms of Home Surveillance. It has become easy and inexpensive to set up, all by oneself, a Camera System with monitor and recorder to protect the premises and discourage would be intruders or burglars.
One of the available options, as widely known, is to hide the camera into some everyday item in order to perform surveillance in a discreet way, without letting the observed persons know they are being spied upon.
Spying upon unaware people may be legal or illegal depending on the circumstances. In general it is illegal to commit a breach of privacy. It would be legal to check the behavior of nannies or caretakers in charge of babies or old people, because no privacy is involved.
Imaginative people may think that surveillance with a hidden camera could be applied usefully also against the strictest family. Although we know that one can disagree with us, we would like to stress that it is not a good idea.
It is not a situation to be scrutinized only from the legality point of view. Being it a proof of essential mistrust, it should not be tolerated in the family. Not only that, the discovery of a spying plot in the family might precipitate a frail condition with serious and possibly unexpected outcomes, always painful.
Old wisdom has it, believe it or not, that ignorance is bliss. Classic tragedies are often based on nasty secrets suddenly revealed. Do not let technology decide on behalf of your own life or your family. We wish to strongly dissuade from improper use of a hidden camera. You know what we mean.
A covert camera should not be implemented to resolve difficult family relationships. Other means like frank discussion, counseling or professional assistance are more suitable to bring about a successful outcome. Compromised situations in interpersonal relations can sometimes be mended, possibly with external help, if they are taken care of, the sooner the better.
Instead of installing a hidden camera to spy on your family, think in advance dispassionately, with logic, not overwhelmed by emotions, of all possible consequences. Innocent creatures may have to sustain pain, anguish and all the burden of an impulsive decision, and be made to pay for someone else pride and arrogance.
Is it worth it at all? If anybody already decided to break, he/she should assume full responsibility, and do it with elegance, with courage, openly, without looking for pretexts.
