Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Long-Term Health
Omega 3 is a group of fatty acids namely DHA, EPA, and ALA. These are good fats and are polyunsaturated fatty acids. Over-all Omega 3 fatty acids contribute to good health. They can help the body fight diseases strengthen the immune system.
DHA and EPA are mostly found in fish oil and some plant and seed oils. Flax seed oil is the best source for ALA. Since the body doesn't make Omega 3s they must come from food source or from nutritional supplements that are available in most stores and without a prescription.
ALA is a fatty acid that breaks down into both DHA and EPA. ALA is a long chain fatty acid while DHA and EPA are short chain fatty acids. It is recommended that the best benefits come from consuming Omega 3 from direct sources particularly fish.
In its purest form fish oil tastes awful which is why many people avoid it. Regular consumption of Omega 3 for long term health is recommended. A viable alternative of liquid fish oil is fish oil capsules. They are tasteless and easier to swallow.
The best fish oil supplements have oil that had been molecularly distilled a process that removes toxins and other impurities by being heated to high temperatures. Oily that is so processed is considered pharmaceutical grade fish oil and is the only kind fit for humans.
Some people may experience mild nausea, headaches, or other stomach problems. If any such symptoms are noted seek medical advice. These symptoms are usually only temporary. Pregnant women and nursing mothers are often advised to increase Omega 3 consumption but should only do so under a doctor's supervision.
Omega 3 fatty acids for long term health can be used by people of all ages with no risks or side effects. Be sure that the product uses pharmaceutical grade fish oil in order to reap the most benefits from their consumption.
