What are Servers?
The server or the server computer is the one that has been designed specially to run certain applications. Thus, the operating system on a server is different from the one used in normal computers as well. The types of applications that are run on a server depend on the function it carries out and the amount of traffic it gets.
These applications are specially designed so that they can run without flaw even when the computer is unattended for long periods of time. The typical features of a server computer include high reliability, ability to function without power supply, higher primary memory and faster processing, more amount of RAM and storage capacity etc.
Some of the servers are also designed to perform specific functions. These are called as server appliances and include routers, gateways, switches etc.
In servers, components that can suffer mechanical damage usually have high amount of strength. These may include fans and hard disk drives. The server computers generally lack GUI (Graphical User Interface) i.e. a screen or a monitor. Thus, the processor does not have to process I/O commands and hence the speed of the processor does not matter to a great extent.
If the server happens to be large then rather than increasing the speed of one processor, multiple processors are used. These can aid in parallel execution of various operations. Usually, the servers operate in rooms that are continuously air conditioned in order to ensure that they do not heat up.
The operating systems of the servers are also different and are usually derived from UNIX operating system. The different types of servers depending on their functionality are application servers, email servers, proxy servers, game servers, fax servers etc.
What is RAID?
RAID stands for Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks. These are usually used in place of hard drives in case of server computers. The primary aim in case of RAID is to make data transfer faster and to store many copies of the same data so that it remains available even when one of the hard drive stops functioning.
When data is stored on RAID, the following are taken care of:
Mirroring: Copies of the data are stored on multiple disks.
Striping: The file that is to be stored is split into different parts and is stored on different disks.
Error Correction: Checking the available data and making sure that it is error free and if errors are found, possibly correcting them.
Usually, RAID hard disks are arranged in 5 levels each of which performs a different operation. Apart from this other configurations are also available and nesting of hard drives is also an option.
How can RAID Data Loss occur?
Data loss from RAID devices can occur due to the following reasons:
Although RAID devices are usually supported by UPS, power failure may occur in them some times. However, it would lead to data loss if some major transfer of data is taking place at that time.
RAID may suffer from physical damage resulting in failure of all hard drives and leading to a loss of data present on them.
Human error may result in loss of data from RAID.
Another cause for data loss is bad sectors. If data is written on such sectors then, the same cannot be read. This type of errors can be corrected by operating systems. While correcting such errors, it patches over the damaged area and it is no longer used for data storage.
Thus, when data is lost from RAID devices, access to the complete system will be denied or in some cases, a part of the data will become unavailable.
RAID Data Recovery
Recovery of data from RAID is possible in most of the cases. Even if the device has been damaged beyond repair, the data can be recovered from it bit-by-bit and then combined together in order to get the complete file back.
Logical errors that have lead to corruption of data can be corrected by making use of the software for the purpose. Such software is available on the internet however, to ensure that data is recovered it is preferable to hire a data recovery company that handles RAID devices.
In case of data loss, always remember to choose the data recovery company wisely as this to a large extent determines the whether the lost data will be recovered. All the Best!

Youve spend most of your young adult life recording every single episode of Seinfeld and Sex in the City now you wish youd waited until recordable DVDs had come out. Or your grandmother left you boxes of pictures and even old reel-to-reel movies, all crumbling and disintegrating, and youd love to be able to copy them to a CD or a DVD. Or you want to take those family memories and share a copy with each of your eight daughters. How do you get your information and images from the closets and boxes of life into new electronic media?
First you have to understand the limitations. Theres only so much one can do with crumbling tapes and disintegrating images. A picture thats faded is never going to be in its original color. You can only capture whats there right now. And if your tapes pop and scratch, youll have a recording on DVD or CD that pops and scratches too. Also, theres a difference between analog media, like tapes, and digital media; when you transfer from one to the other, youre going to see some quality issues.
Second, you have to understand your equipment needs. You will have to have a good computer, first and foremost, and preferably one that has lots of hard drive space so you can store your images, sounds, and moving images until they can be transferred to a more appropriate medium. When you purchase your computer, make sure its a multimedia computer. This ensures that it will have the right hookups for tape transferal. It will need a video hookup (thats the three plugs in red, yellow, and white) to transfer VCR data, and youll need to purchase a scanner for those pictures. A DVD burner will be of the utmost necessity, preferably one that also burns standard CDs. Remote backup of your data is a good idea as well; for that, you should have a good high-speed hookup for your computer.
Now go out and study copyright law. You need to understand that some of what youre doing may be construed as illegal one day, judging by the way court cases are going. The FBI warning that comes up at the beginning of every recorded movie warning against public showings or illegal copying is a very serious thing these days. When you copy copyright-protected materials, it is your responsibility to ensure that you are making them for your personal use only. Dont do what some are doing, and copy the game, CD, or DVD before selling it secondhand; this is blatantly illegal and at some point its going to catch up with them.
Another piece of hardware may be necessary if youre copying video games for your kids. Its a good idea to make these copies for pre-teen children because of the damage they can do to CDs and DVDs; but you will need a special plug-in adapter for your video game console. In addition, you should be ready for a steep learning curve. Its much harder to copy disk-based games than it is to copy movies or music. Remember, games are designed by programmers; the best copyblock programs are going to be found here, not on a movie. You will have to purchase special software and learn it in order to circumvent the copy blocks.
When you do have all the necessary equipment and knowledge, it should not be hard to copy anything you want into any medium, provided that medium has enough room. And you can do some really neat things as you copy them. For instance, you can edit out all the commercials in that 7-year run of Seinfeld. It may take you months, but ultimately youll have a perfect copy of all the episodes. Or maybe you want to turn your old pictures into a slide show, with sound, text, and voiceovers. With a good presentation program, you can do that. Disks like this make excellent anniversary presents, Christmas greetings, or engagement gifts to welcome new members of the family.
You can take old family movies and give them soundtracks if you like; or you can print all your grandmas old pictures onto T-shirts to give away at the holidays. Really, once you have digitized your data and images, you have no limitations to what you can do to it except for your own imagination.
In the last decade, electronic media, computing advances, and the Internet have transformed our lives. They will continue transforming them for the foreseeable future. And media will also continue changing. If you make digitized copies of your memories, your media, and your information, you can ensure that they are preserved for the future. And by learning about the advances coming down the pike, you can prepare for future developments; for instance, smell technology is available for web designers these days. Wouldnt it be neat to be able to record the smell of Moms apple pie, or of your favorite perfume, and play it back someday in the future? Smell, after all, is the sense most closely related to memory.
But for now, use your skills with electronic media copying to enhance your current media collection, preserve memories for the future, and show people how much they mean to you by giving them gifts of memories and love. Technology is just another tool that you can use to make your life and the lives of those you love better. Use it.

Tape drives are useful backups to store data. The faster variety can transfer 20MB per second. Other tape drives can accommodate kilobytes and gigabytes in the hundreds. These kinds of media, however, are sequential-access devices, meaning you have to read through previous data before you can get to the latest input. You need to rewind data, and this takes time. The search time may be slow but streaming data into tape drives is real fast. The latest tape drives can transfer data up to
80 MBs as fast as 10,000 rpm hard disks.
Tape drives reads and writes data on a magnetic tape. This is ideal for filing data that are clogging your computers hard drive. In cost and efficiency of storage, tape drives are ideal for the purpose. The compact unit does not require much space on your table or shelf, thus making it an ideal partner to your computer.
Tape drives are useful components for office data storage. The pile of data in the computers hard disk can pose risks should any mishap occur. Integrated with a secure media technology the cost of installing tape drives will be inexpensive in the long haul. Electronic storage is always the better way to store important data, and tape drives offer the least expensive way to store files.
Small and big businesses can maximize the use of tape drives. The less accessed data are kept safe in storage and these can be catalogued according to type and period. Organized data storage can increase efficiency in the workplace. If the deciding factors are efficiency and safe data storage at a minimal cost, tape drives are the best options even for the hard-nosed businessmen.
There are different external models to choose from: T10000, T9840, T9940, Linear Open Tape Drives, and DLT Tape Drives.

In nowadays computer takes important place almost in every people life. We use computers for all types of things, including, for entertainment, work and corresponding with others. And there is a lot of important And the better way how to make these data safe from various disasters is to make backup copies!
What is backup?
Backup is the activity of copying files or databases so that they will be preserved in case of equipment failure or other catastrophe.
Why do backup files?!?
It is really good question and here is some statistics:
* PCs are infected with viruses at a rate of more than 10% each month.
* Over 50% of PC users have lost an electronic file they thought they had sufficiently stored.
* 9% of people have admitted never backing up their files.
* 32% of data loss is caused by human error.
* 7% of data loss is caused by computer viruses.
* 3% of data loss is caused by natural disasters.
Statistics show that there are many different ways how to lose so important information and that kind of disasters happen. So better be prepare!
Backups are useful primarily for two purposes: to restore a computer to an operational state following a disaster and to restore small numbers of files after they have been accidentally deleted or corrupted.
What to backup?
For most computer users is not obligatory to do backups for all files which are on computer, because its takes a lot of storage place and not always necessary. The main idea for backup process is to do copy from files which are important and is not replaceable.
This can includes:
* Bank records and other financial information.
* Digital photographs.
* Music you purchased and downloaded from the Internet.
* Personal projects.
* Software you purchased and downloaded from the Internet.
When to backup?
It would be perfect make backup copies to new and critical data constantly they are in computer, but for other data once a week! How often you do backups depends on how much your files change.
How offten do this, its depend on you,but remember that backups is only then effective if they are made regulary!!!
Where to backup?
There are two main backup location groups:
* Local backup - a copy of a file or document that is located on the computers hard disk drive or removable devices. This type of backup is not very safe, because, if something cause computer hard disk or removable device where is these backups, you may lose these data.
Suggestion - save backups to more than one device and store these devices in different places.
* Internet backup - a copy of a files or document that is located on the internet server. This type of backups is safe from that way, that they are in safe place. But there is another hand - if something are saved to internet that mean that there are frauds from hackers.
Suggestion - choose internet backup serviss which save your data in crypted format!
Now it is in your hands…BE PREPARE OR NOT TO BE!!!

PC Repairs are often needed when we need our computer the most. One way to take away many problems or to make our life simple is at all times to have a solid backup. A simple method would be to buy Norton Ghost 10 which gives you the ability to do incremental backups which is a godsend.
Never use the auto backup as this has a tendency to work whilst you are working what will happen is the system will start to run very sluggish due to this auto backup going on in the background and often the system will crash.
Split your hard drive in 2 with Partition Magic and make this a rule when working. Also when you have a basic setup, consider buying a DVD drive and Roxio Easy CD Creator. The simple reason this is an excellent second backup. Always save a copy of all your files on the DVD drive as well so your work is in two places. Use drag to disk which allows your DVD to act like a hard drive. Once you see the benefits of this you will never look back. Far more reliable than any floppy drive or USB flash drive has ever been. There is one golden key be patient and always be sure that your data has fully written to the DVD before ejecting as this may cause data lost!
With a full system backup using Norton Ghost you can be up and running within 20 minutes or much less dependent than the footprint of your overhaul install. Once do a reboot you will see a wide choice of backups you can select from, if you have a large hard drive you can go back years. My advice is to delete you old backups once you are sure you have a healthy system, but at all times keep a basic backup of whatever operating system you are using. This is a super way of immediately pinpointing if your problem is software or hardware related.

Helping your business survive in the event of an unforeseen disaster: Most business failures are not from bad business but from bad business practices.
Most companies that fail are the ones that have not planned how their business will continue to function in the event of a disaster.
We put in the conventional safeguards such as alarming the premises, locking up vital areas and information, putting in fire prevention systems.
But what thought is given to make sure that the vital data that is needed for a business to continue is in a safe place- can be accessed and is current information.
Sales/purchases ledgers.
Do you know what the company is owed?
Can you prove to your insurers what is owed and what your replacement costs are?
Business processes.
Where are your procedures manuals, technical drawings, and patents?
Insurances.
Where are your policies kept?
Back up tapes- they are off site but what do we load them on to.
How often do we back up our information? Where is it kept? On site-in your
briefcase? How do we restore it.
Cheque books-paying in books-writing paper-invoice paper.
Have they gone up in smoke?
There are a few safeguards that we can put in place so that the business can continue to function in the event of a disaster. These processes do not have to be expensive or costly.
They require common sense, a little professional help and a place that is risk free where
you can store the information vital for your survival.
We spend millions each year with insurance companies, insuring for the eventuality of the
business having a disaster- surely the small amount of time cost & effort in making sure
that you have the wherewithal to continue trading as soon as possible is the prime
objective.
“BattleBoxes containing essential items for business continuation can be created for
your company with a minimum of effort and will give you the peace of mind, so that you
can continue the business in the event of a disaster.
Oh! And by the way ask your insurers for a reduction in your premiums. Lowering the
risk limits their exposure- why should they reap all the rewards.

Sometimes, due to unforeseen occurrences, it may become necessary to recover information from your hard drive. For instance, you computer may encounter problems and you need to recover documents. In many cases such data retrieval is quite possible. So, how exactly does data recovery work?
Specialists in data recovery will take your hard drive and evaluate it. Skilled technicians will determine how much information can actually be retrieved from your hard drive and what will be necessary to retrieve the lost data. Once this evaluation is complete; the data recovery provider will advise you what needs to be done to retrieve your data and how much the work will cost you.
Lost data can be recovered successfully about 80 percent of the time. Bear in mind however, that the evaluation process can take several days to weeks, and it may or may not prove successful in determining what the problem with the computer is. Then, if you should decide to give the data recovery provider the go ahead, they will clone the system and begin attempting to retrieve the data that is on your hard drive. Laptops and notebooks can also have data recovered from them. Despite the fact that the procedures for doing so are different than those used on standard computers, data can still be recovered from these mini-computers. In essence, the primary difference is that these computers require smaller tools in order to recover the data on them because they are so much smaller. Specialists do not require your entire computer to recover your data. Rather, you can simply ship your hard drive to them and they will retrieve the data from it.
Nevertheless, as a hard drive is a sensitive piece of equipment it, needs to be shipped very carefully. The drive will have to be wrapped in material that will not produce static and you should avoid the use of Styrofoam peanuts at all costs - they create a significant amount of static and static can destroy a hard drive.
There are also some other things to be aware of if you want to attempt data recovery. For instance, if you hard drive is exposed to water, you should be quite careful when shipping it. It is advised that data can be retrieved better before the hard drive dries out, therefore it is suggested that you ship it with a damp cloth in a plastic bag to ensure that it stays wet until it can be evaluated. Finally, when you do ship your hard drive to a data recovery provider, be sure to place it in a cardboard box, wrapped in bubble wrap, where it will have very little room to move around.

Over the past year Ive emphasized, told and retold the following fact at countless speaking engagements and educational seminars: 100% of computer hardware fails 100% of the time.
You seethe question isnt IF our computers will break down, but WHEN? It could be today, or tomorrow, or the day after we just cant know. Were thankful it hasnt happened yet, but it would be foolish to ignore the inevitable.
Because the annoying reality is: computers crash unexpectedly and at the most inconvenient time.
On a personal note, this happened to me. My hard drive crashed for no apparent reason. But it wasnt my work computerit was a computer that stored something of great personal value to me: the only good copy of my wedding video that I had been personally cutting together for months.
The bizarre thing was I had just completed editing the video the night before, and I hadnt even had the chance to play it for my wife. I had been working on that computer day after day for months, with no problems. I was intending on burning additional copies to DVDs, but I had just finished the changes I wanted to make. All I did was unplug the external drive from my laptop to connect it to my desk top computer but that was enough to crash the drive, completely erase months of work and destroy all the images of my wedding day.
But I was lucky, because what if my livelihood had depended on that hard drive?
Though both my wife and I literally felt sick to our stomachs for days afterward, I learned the most important lesson of my career and gained the vision for my lifes work. My wife and I co-founded our company with this one undeniable truth: Your computer backup cannot wait until tomorrow.
And if your livelihood depends upon the information stored on your computer, the situation becomes even more grave. Did you know that, according to the Globe and Mail, 70% of Canadian small businesses that suffer a major data loss close their doors within a year? (Joanna Pachner, Special to Globe & Mail Update, May 16, 2007)
Your time is a non-renewable resource, and losing a single days work is incredibly frustrating.
I learned this lesson the hard way. But after I lost my wedding videoand realized all the things I should have done differentlyI began researching data backup and putting together my wish list for the ultimate no-brainer computer backup system.
And heres the wish list that I came up with. I invite you to use this list as a benchmark against which you compare your current backup procedure, or any outsourced computer backup and recovery service you may be considering.
My Ultimate, No-Brainer Computer Backup Wish List
I insist upon a computer backup system that:
Runs automatically, so I dont have to remember, be in the office, or set aside time to backup my information.
Saves all my files, updates and changes every single day (even Saturday and Sunday), so Ill never lose a single day of my hard work again.
Ensures my valuable client database will never be lostbecause without my list, my business is doomed.
Stores all my records at a separate physical and geographical location from my computer, so my information is protected even in the event of a theft, fire or flood.
Automatically backs up my backup to a third location, so that I have complete redundancy, and so all possibility for information loss is eliminated.
Does not copy over my last backup, but instead allows me to see what my work looked like yesterday, a week ago, last month, or even 12 months ago.
Encrypts my records, so no one but me can access or read my files.
Automatically tests my backup to make sure its actually working, so my work will be 100% recoverable when my computer crashes again!
Eliminates all time spent by me and my staff to complete and test our backups, so I have more time to concentrate on my business.
Eliminates all backup hardware investments, so I have more money in my pocket.
In other words, I need a backup system that automatically:
- Saves my information.
- Protects the time I invested to complete my work and build my client database. (This is a biggie! Can you imagine building your list again from scratch?)
- Gives me the peace-of-mind that my next computer crash will be a mere inconveniencenot a catastrophe.
- Lets me stop worrying about backup altogether because I dont even have to think about it!
More than anything, my automated computer backup system works for medoes EXACTLY what it says it will, gives me back my work when I need it, and never requires me to spend any time fiddling with it.
I encourage you to ask yourself this question: does your computer backup system give you everything on this list?
If not, I urge you to make the switch to one that does before another day passes. Because, remember, your computer backup cannot wait until tomorrow just ask my wife, who will never let me forget it!

Ever tried to send a folder or file with big file size and disk occupying space through email. Many a times your email account cannot send the file and displays error messages. Why does this happens?
This mainly happens when the size of the file which you are mailing is large or your internet connection speed is slow or your ISP is not able to transfer your request. But this can be solved by using the WinZip software a compression utility to reduce the file and disk storage size of a file.
WinZip software is used to compress a file into an archive so that it occupies less disk storage space. Files and folders with heavy file size can be compressed with WinZip compression utility which will reduce the storage space on the disk.
For example, the size of a folder on disk comes to be 276 KB but when the same folder is compressed with the WinZip utility, its occupying disk space becomes 160 KB. A straight away reduction of 116 KBs. Now this folder can be transferred easily through email and will take less time to get transferred to other storage medium.
Corportaes, students, accountants, designers and many other professionals use WinZip software to send important data thus reduce file size, which then can be easily transferred from one place to another. But at times these zipped files may get corrupt in the electronic transit or by virus attacks, software malfunction, or the storage media where the zip files are stored might get corrupt; any situation can lead to file corruption and make you face data loss situations.
At this time of data loss situations, zip repair software proves helpful to recover the lost data. The deleted, corrupt, damaged and inaccessible data can be recovered with the help of zip file recovery software.
Winrar is another useful compression utility used for reducing file and disk storage space similar to WinZip. Thus the reality cannot be ignored that WinZip and Winrar compression utilities have made their mark in daily file transfer usage and are helping users to transfer their data.

Over the years, I have observed many salespeople and their routines daily, weekly, monthly and yearly. It is my belief that many salespeople waste a great deal of time. Some of the common time wasters are (there are many others, this is just a quick list):
poor prospecting
spending too much time with poor prospects
not having a clear plan for their day/week/month/year/life
starting too late in the day/ending too soon
redundant time habits (this would take a book to cover)
not concentrating on a task at hand
lacking focus
I am not suggesting that you work 18 hour days, take work home with you on weekends, ignore your family and have no fun. I have been selling for over 35 years and have worked very few 18 hour days. I have worked (writing) several 24 hour marathons, but it is difficult to find someone to sell to at 3:00 AM.
I am suggesting you look at your personal work habits to see where you could be a little busier not in busy work but productive sales activities. My guess is that most salespeople dont work that hard (hours). I can hear a few of you screaming now, Are you nuts? I hustle every day all week long. Great, I am not talking to you, but to those who could benefit from a little extra effort each day /week /month. And, you know who you are, dont you?
Hustle is not about working longer or harder for the sake of work.
1. It is about getting to a prospect before your competitor does.
2. It is about spending time in self-help books rather than in front of the TV every night.
3. It is about getting up an hour earlier every day to plan. It is about having breakfast/lunch/dinner with a client or prospect rather than eating alone.
4. It is about creating balance in your life so you have the will, energy and desire to put in the time necessary.
5. It is about working smarter (another book here, folks), not just harder. Although many people think that smart work is a replacement for hard work. I wish.
6. It is about spending time in reflection, contemplation and self-evaluation.
7. It is about managing your time in such a way that you maximize your results (another book, yes, but writing 4 books a year keeps me plenty busy).
Had enough? Time to get back to work. Reading this tip, although it is great, will not put any money in your pocket directly that is.
