Acne Myths - Part 2
Myths can be fun to share or they can be hurtful. When it has to do with something like acne which is very personal to so many, these myths can disrupt what could be a cure for many. This is Part 2 of Acne Myths.
Acne Myth #8. Acne Is Only For Teens - Teens are known for acne, because usually that's when it first erupts, but this is far from true. Nearly 25-30% of adults between the ages of 25-45 have acne. There are many reasons for this high percentage which we won't cover in this article, but acne definitely is not exclusively a teen condition.
Acne Myth #9. Acne Will Go Away By Itself - Many think that if they don't touch their face, that their outbreak of acne will disappear by itself. Can that happen? Of course, but it is rare. Action needs to be taken against acne in many ways to get control of it so it doesn't worsen.
Acne Myth #10. Squeeze A Pimple To Get Rid Of It - You should never squeeze a pimple. It is tempting to do this to get rid of the 'sight' of it, but do not make it a practice. Under your skin is very delicate and you could bring about such inflammation that it will cause a permanent scar. Allow them to heal on their own.
Acne Myth #11. You Don't Need A Doctor For Acne - Many think acne is just a normal occurrence so a doctor's help is not needed. But acne can have not only physical results, but damaging emotional results as well. If something is treatable, why not get treatment? If the acne is mild, then get over the counter treatments as well as vitamin supplements and change of diet. If it's severe, see a dermatologist and get help.
Acne Myth #12. Acne Is Not Internal So Why Worry About It? - Yes and no. It's true that acne is only on your skin, but it's a 'caution' sign that something else could be wrong. Perhaps your hormones are out of balance or your stress levels are so high that they are causing an imbalance or many other factors.
Acne Myth #13. There Is A Cure For Acne - False! There is not a cure for acne as of right now. There are many options you can use to control it, but preventing it should be on the top of your list. And if you already have a fair or severe condition, then get medication to help it and follow guidelines we have given you.
Acne Myth #14. Sunlight Will Cure My Acne - Sunlight may help to dry out your skin if it is oily, therefore help to dry up your existing acne, but that's all it will do. Of course, up to 30 minutes a day of sunlight is good for your overall health and well being, but it will not cure your acne. But remember, whether you have acne or not, you should always wear a sunscreen when in the sun, especially if it's for long periods of time.
